THE LEAF QUEEN
The Leaf Queen had fallen on hard times, and what hard times they were. Forced to beg for scraps while wandering cold and ill-clothed, she went from village to village until at last she reached the sea. There she cried out for salvation over the impatient waves, and fair curling steady breakers they were, believe you me. A Great Fish arose from the depths and questioned her closely until satisfied of the Leaf Queen’s plight. Thereupon, the Leaf Queen was lifted in a whirl of spray and conveyed to the depths where she lived ever afterward pleasantly attached to the crown twig on the loveliest tree on the bottom of the sea.
