GIANT PARTNERS IN THE WEST

July 6, 2015

Sassafrass Finn removed the final tumbleweed from his longjohns and tossed it away.

‘Don’t that beat all?’ he said to his partner, Mo Fledge. ‘Tumbleweeds thicker ‘n a barn full of sweetowls ’round here, ain’t it.’

Fledge grunted, absorbed as he was in removing his own plague of troublesome tumbleweeds from his hat, boots, shirt and dungarees.

‘Reckon we’ll make Harpersville today?’ asked Finn, jamming his hat on after extracting from it a previously undiscovered tumbleweed.

‘Dunno,’ grunted Fledge.

‘Well, consarn it, don’t you beat all fer conversation. I wished I’d stuck with Paul Bunyan ‘stead o’ you,’ commented Finn.

Fledge grunted.

The wind gusted, slamming tumbleweeds into the partners’ faces.

Sassafrass Finn cussed up and over yonder and back again.

Mo Fledge grunted.
