THE KULL GABBOON
Douse all the candles and come close to the fire, my sweets. I feel a story building inside me. Are you ready? Comfortable? Now I’ll tell you all about the monster, the dreadful Kull Gabboon. Oh, the Kull Gabboon, it’s terrible. Great eyes the size of dinner plates. Teeth a curved forest of knives dripping with blood. It has long claws useful for ripping on its thick fingers and twisted toes. Whenever it walks the land, it roars like a clap of thunder – RRRAAAHHHHH – causing giants to hide inside their castles and tremble with fear, causing Dragons to abandon their treasures and fly far, far away, causing witches to grow pale and sink to their knees. Now the Kull Gabboon dwells in a deep cave where it practices its magic. Oh, it’s a monster with magic. Yes, it is. When it mutters and moans strange sounding words, it can disguise itself as a beautiful princess or a lazy dog or a simple carpenter or anything other else at all. Now lean closer and I’ll whisper a secret I’ve never shared before. I am the Kull Gabboon.
AGAIN, NOT MR. LEAR’S BIRTHDAY
A parrot flew out of my nose
And perched on a pile of old clothes.
It said, ‘Give me a cracker, or else I will smack yer.’
I’m ashamed that we then exchanged blows.
STILL NOT EDWARD LEAR’S BIRTHDAY
There was an Old man with a wig
Who danced a jiggetty jig
He danced with such passion his face grew quite ashen
And he fell on a great spotted pig
A SENTENCE BY FLANN O’BRIEN
The Pooka MacPhellimey, a member of the devil class, sat in his hut in the middle of a firwood meditating on the nature of the numerals and segregating in his mind the odd ones from the even.
Sure, ’tis just a taste of the prose poetry in At Swim-Two-Birds

BOOK REVIEW EXCERPT SAMPLES
This work is what I would call ‘a good book’, not the Bible per se, but a book that never in fact arms itself and robs a convenience store.
This book is exactly like a braided lamp sputtering an effusion of liquid sparkles which make an ordinary parlor seem like a dentist’s nightmare.
This book never once calls attention to itself without first asking the deputy’s permission.
THE LUNATIC SAGE ADVISES
Don’t despair, for in time the tune will be on the other foot and sung differently.
