Loon: Today our guest on the 3 Question Interview is the ghost of Frank Morgan, who I am informed played the Wizard in the movie, The Wizard of Oz. Mr. Morgan, did you have a favorite scene in that movie?
Morgan’s ghost: What? Ah, yes. Favorite scene? Now let me think. I do believe … Yes, yes, I did have a favorite scene.
Loon: Well, what was it?
Morgan’s ghost: What was it, you ask? What was it? I should know this. It’s on the tip of my tongue, but I can’t shake it loose. I forget.
Loon: Oh, well, never mind. When you were in black and white before the cyclone, how did you get ready to meet Dorothy?
Morgan’s ghost: Dorothy? Ah, Dorothy. Who’s Dorothy?
(Loon wanders off. Morgan’s ghost ascends through ceiling, hoisted in his basket by a balloon.)

OVER THE HILL

The town never changed. Each and every morning Ted opened the door to his store at 6 o’clock sharp and swept the dust from the boardwalk fronting his business out onto the dust of the street. He nodded the same greeting, a nod of his head, a minute later each and every morning to Mabel passing by on the way to her milliner’s shop, The Clever Feather. Billy passed by on his burro, turning the same grin to Ted at the same time each and every day.
Later, after selling a ball of twine to Marlene, as he had done each and every day at the same time, Ted, for the first time ever, gazed out the window at the hill looming high over the shoulder of the hotel across the street. I wonder what’s over that hill, he thought. He left the store, destroying custom and habit. He passed around the hotel and climbed the hill. What did he see when he got to the top? He saw an exact reverse image of his town below. He stood face to face with himself.

Loon: The Lords of the 4th Dimension have seen fit to bring us for the 3 Question Interview Samuel Beckett’s haberdasher. Mr. Dasher, was Samuel Beckett a horse when it came to wearing clothes?
Beckett’s haberdasher’s ghost: All going, stopped going, to begin again.
Loon: Am I right to interpret that as a ‘yes’?
Beckett’s haberdasher’s ghost: The end of the beginning again, too late to be early.
Loon: And finally, did you have a feather duster in your shop?
Beckett’s haberdasher’s ghost: At the end of the day to follow the day again not again but in another sense.
(Loon and haberdasher’s ghost stroll off arm in arm, pausing, not pausing.)
