WHAT IS THIS?
A corner of Socrates’ garden? A Pompeii courtyard the day before the you know what? A cropped close-up of the winning entry in a cake decorating contest? A ghostly image of deadly robot hands? An attractive and innocent looking strangle vine near a pillar? Hint: The loon ran in terror, shrieking, “No, robot! Nooooo!”

A SENTENCE BY ROBERT GRAVES
Here the mountain, which was shaggy with wild olive and esculent oak, sloped sharply down to the sea, five hundred feet below at that time dappled with small banks of mist, like sheep grazing, as far as the horizon line.
I’ve always preferred my oaks to be esculent, haven’t you? I mean, of course, with marmalade. And yes, THE GOLDEN FLEECE is quite an awfully good book.
CHICKEN/EGG KWIZ ANSWER
I don’t know about you, but whenever I come across sentient washcloths unanimously expressing a single opinion concerning the question at hand, I quickly and thoroughly back their belief. I forget what it was, though.
CHICKEN/EGG KWIZ

a. revisiting Stalin’s boyhood.
b. a blunderbuss
c. sentient washcloths
d. hammers at one pace

ALIEN LIFE FORM
The alien life form suppressed for the moment its desire to bring the death ray into play. Yes, the lady in front of it had 17 items in her cart and this was supposedly the ‘express lane 15 items or fewer’. But no, to sabotage the entire mission over two little items would be beyond foolish. But on one of the many other hands, 17 items were clearly more than 15 items. To be fair, perhaps the lady in question was mathematically challenged. Well then, all the more reason to eliminate her. Hold on. Hold on. Rapid increase in pulse rate and accelerated beatings of your hearts won’t help matters. Think of home. Contemplate the 4th moon. Oh, what the hell. Go for the death ray.
